I think this is not such a bad deal for Oracle or Sun. Clearly enterprise customers were signaling that Sun could not retain business as an independent, so Sun's board had to do something. As they got approximately the per share price asked of IBM so good job by them. Oracle stock price barely blinked in a serious down day for tech stocks so I think the Street is giving the deal thumbs up. Ellison has made many smart acquisitions, especially in the last five years, so I have to give him the benefit of the doubt until we see otherwise.
